New Iranian naval force to Aden Gulf - news agency

قوات عسكرية إيرانية بقيادة «قائد سلاح البحر» تتوجه إلى خليج عدن جنوب اليمن

The Iranian news agency “Tasnim” had reported that a new Iranian naval force consisting of the “Nagdi” warship and the supply ship “Tanab” have headed to the Gulf of Aden, south of Yemen, and Bab el Mandeb Strait for the safeguarding of the Iranian commercial ships.

The news agency pointed out that a number of Iranian commercial ships were berthing at Omani ports, and will soon be sailing towards the strategic Bab el Mandeb Strait and the Aden Gulf.

The agency also stated that this was the first international mission for the “Nagdi” warship, after it has been maintained and repaired by Iranian engineers, and it had joined the Iranian Navy fleet.

This could be a provocative step to the naval forces of the Saudi-led Arab Coalition that control the Yemeni territorial waters at the request of the Yemeni government, following the coup of the Iranian-backed Houthi group in early 2015.
