United Nations: Violence in Hodeidah threatens 90 thousand women and girls

A statement issued by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) said Wednesday that the escalating violence in Hodeidah, the west of the country, threatens nearly 90,000 women and girls.

"Some 14,000 of these women and girls are likely to face pregnancy-related complications requiring emergency care, and access to health services has been very limited due to the ongoing crisis," he added.

He stated that he provided supplies and support to gynecologists in five directorates in Hodeidah, but fear and insecurity prevented patients from seeking urgent care.

"Yemen has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the region," the fund noted. And that the conflict has halted access to health services, medicines, food and livelihoods. "
