4 members of the security belt killed and injured in attack by gunmen at checkpoint east of Aden

A member of the UAE-backed security belt forces was killed and three others were injured early Monday in an armed attack by unidentified gunmen at the Al-Rehab checkpoint near Aden International Airport, east of the southern city of Aden.

A local source told Al-Masdar Online that gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on the belt elements located in the security checkpoint in al-Arish neighborhood, the eastern gate of the interim capital Aden, and then fled.

Following the attack, security belt personnel at the point opened fire on the source of the attack, but the gunmen left the scene to an unknown destination.

Military vehicles of the security forces deployed throughout the neighborhood a few hours after the attack.

The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) took control of Aden on August 10, and in recent weeks security forces have carried out arrests and raids on the homes of military and local leaders and activists opposed to the UAE presence in the city.
