Yemen's Foreign Minister says Yemen needs new UN roadmap

Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdul Malik Al Mikhlafi said that there is an urgent need for a new peace roadmap to be provided by the UN envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh, to resolve the conflict in the destabilized country.

During a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Yemen, Vladimir Dudishkin, Al Mikhlafi stressed "the importance that the UN envoy works on a roadmap that takes into account the references and the proposals put forward in the previous peace talks, so that it may succeed and establish a real and sustainable peace."

According to the official "SABA" News Agency, Al Mikhlafi said: "the current roadmap presented by the UN envoy, which was rejected by the government, does not lay the foundations for a real peace, but rather takes Yemen wars and crises forward."

It is worth to mention that the proposed roadmap marginalizes the future role of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi and assigns his powers to a new "consensus" Vice-President, as it also provides for the involvement of Houthi rebels in a National Unity Government.
