The Yemeni government instructs Central Bank start pay salaries of retired staff

The Yemeni news agency "Saba" reported that the government has approved on Wednesday the payment of retired staff salaries in the public sector starting next Saturday.

The Government, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister Hussein Arab, directed the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank to start payment of retirees salaries, and to accelerate preparing the salaries lists of all the civil sectors so as to pay their salaries.

The Yemeni government has paid over the past week the salaries of the month of September for the staff in the governorates under its control, while the Houthi rebels authorities have failed to pay the salaries, amid liquidity crisis in the local currency.

Despite the promises of the PM Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr late last October to pay the overdue salaries of state employees in the foreign currency available, no salary was paid until this moment, at a time the economic situation in the troubled country is collapsing.
