The Yemeni Islah party has condemned the US Treasury decision to impose sanctions on Yemeni citizens on the plea of being tied to Ansar al-Sharia.
A statement issued by the General Secretariat of the Islah party, which is part of the Yemeni government, said that taking a decision to impose sanctions on the leader in the Popular Resistance al Hassan Ali Ali Abkar and Abdullah Faisal al Ahdal is a result of the US administration's reliance on misleading information aimed at targeting the Yemeni dignitaries that "are known for being moderate, and the decision was not based on any tangible evidence."
Late last week, the US Treasury Department has added Al-Hasan Ali Ali Abkar, Abdallah Faysal Sadiq al-Ahdal and the Rahmah Charitable Organization to its list of specially designated nationals and entities on the plea of having links with Ansar al Sharia organization, a subsidiary of Al-Qaeda.
The Islah party praised al-Hasan Abkar as a national dignitary that stood against the Houthi militias and sacrificed everything in hand to support the legitimate government against the coup.
The Islah party also demanded the Yemeni government, of which the party is a part, to defend its citizens against the actions taken against them, and stressed on the need to confront the lobby which targets all the national dignitaries that stood against the Houthi and Saleh coup
