Report: 1231 persons killed and 7261 injured in clashes and shelling in Taiz last year

A report conducted by the Humanitarian Relief Coalition in the city of Taiz, central Yemen, said on Monday that 1231 persons were killed and 7261 others injured, including woman and children, during 2016.

 

The report pointed out that some of the injuries were serious which resulted from the sniping and the heavy random shelling on the residential neighborhoods.

 

The report added that 41 thousand and 44 buildings including houses, public establishments, trade shops, mosques, and schools were damaged because of the war in more than 15 districts in Taiz.

 

The report also mentioned that Taiz city is still suffering the lack of the water, electricity, and cleanliness services, as well as the lack of most of the medical services and medicines.

 

One million, 775 thousand and 744 families were forcibly displaced and had to leave their houses, neighborhoods and villages in the regions of al Waziyah, Haifan, al Selw, Saluh, al Tazziyah, al Dabh, Hathan, Ghurab, al Jahmaliah, al Maqaterahm and al Rabeeyi because of the clashes, according to the report.

 

The report as well warned of an imminent famine that could lead to a serious humanitarian crisis in Taiz governorate, especially that the humanitarian aides delivered by the international organizations are insufficient.

 

The Humanitarian Relief Coalition also renewed calling on all the humanitarian organizations and the competent authorities to urgently deliver the necessary aids and support to the governorate of Taiz .
