The pro-government forces fended off on Friday morning a violent offensive waged by the militants of the Houthi group and forces loyal to former president Saleh in al Saq front in western Shabwa province, southern Yemen.

A military source in the 26 Military Brigade had stated that the Houthis and allied forces waged on Friday early morning a violent attack on the locations of the pro-government forces in al Saq and Akid Sofah areas, western Shabwa. 

A number of militants were killed and injured in the fighting, and a number of them were surrounded at one of the sites in al Saq. Added the source.
