Houthi rebels launch large-scale levies collection from merchants in Saada province

The Houthi rebels launched a massive levies collection campaign from the merchants and shopkeepers in the southern province of Saada, far north of Yemen.

The Houthi militants were deployed in Saada city and in the various districts after they had announced launching a campaign to collect money to finance the group's fighters on the various fronts, Almasdaronline reporter in Saada said.

The reporter added citing merchants and shopkeepers that the gunmen passed on them and handed each of them an empty envelope written on it: "the convoy of supply for the army and the popular committees," in addition to the slogan "be a partner in making the victory", and a blank to write the name of the merchant.

“The gunmen involved in collecting the levies tell the shop owners that those who do not pay will be added in the "supporters of aggression" list”.

The merchants and shopkeepers in Saada complain of repeated levies collection and are forced to pay to protect themselves.

The levies collection comes amid recession plagued by the commercial sector and the weak purchasing power of the citizens.
