Houthis abduct, torture colleague Mohammed al-Selwi in Taiz

The militants of the Houthi group and forces loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh have been abducting journalist Mohammed al-Selwi since six months in al-Rahda district of Taiz province in southwestern Yemen, the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate said Tuesday.

The union said it had obtained information confirming that the Houthis have been abducting colleague Mohammed al-Selwi since October 17, 2016 in al-Rahda, while he was on the way to the southern Aden city, the interim capital of Yemen.

Al-Selwi was, then, transferred to al-Saleh city, where he was subjected to torture, before transferring him to a detention in Dhamar province, central Yemen”.

The YJS condemned the abduction of colleague al-Selwi, demanded the immediate release of him, and called for stopping targeting and harassing the journalists.

Colleague al-Selwi was working for Almasdar newspaper, before it stopped when the Houthi militants and Saleh forces stormed and looted its office on 26 March 2015.
