Yemeni government officially endorses UN envoy’s proposals on Hodeida and state resources

Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdulmalik al-Mekhlafi announced the government's agreement to the proposals put forward by the UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh on the withdrawal from Hodeida, the mechanism of handing over resources, and payment of salaries of state employees.

Al-Mekhlafi wrote on Twitter that the Permanent Mission of Yemen to the United Nations had issued an official statement with the approval of the Yemeni government on the proposals made by the UN envoy, out of the government’s keenness to alleviate the suffering of Yemenis.

In his briefing to the UN Security Council, Ould Cheikh revealed a proposal to the Yemeni parties to hand over the port of Hodeida to a neutral party so as to spare Hodeida a military operation.

He also presented a proposal to hand the state revenues to an independent body that handles the payment of salaries of government employees.

However, the Houthi group denied that Ould Cheikh had offered any proposal or that it agreed to hand over Hodeida, and accused him of contradicting himself and supporting what it calls “aggression”.
