UNHCR: around 2 million Yemenis remain internally displaced

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said that about 2 million Yemenis are still internally displaced due to the ongoing conflict since early 2015.

The UNHCR said it was deeply concerned by the significant impact the escalating hostilities are having on the protection of civilians and on the increase of newly displaced persons.

She pointed out that 84 percent of the nearly 1,980,510 people have been internally displaced for over a year.

She also said that 946,044 internally displaced people had returned to their homes and 280,623 refugees and asylum seekers, mainly from Somalia and Ethiopia, are in the country.

Moreover, the UNHCR  warned that ''The war in Yemen, on its third year, has caused a heavy toll on civilians, including refugees, asylum seekers and internally displaced persons,"
