Gunmen intercept a "Safer" oil shipment and burn one of the tankers northeast of Marib

Tribal gunmen on Wednesday intercepted crude oil tankers flying from the "Safer" fields in Marib to the export port of Shabwa province, a military source said.

The source told Al-Masdar online, that tribal gunmen from "Al-Damashqa" intercepted the crude oil tankers after they passed the area of "Ruwek" northeast of Marib province, and started shooting at them.

The gunmen managed to burn one of the tankers, while the rest of the tankers continued on their way, while another source at Safer said another tanker was damaged, the source added.

The source confirmed that the protection forces accompanying the oil tankers responded to the gunmen who fled.

The military source did not specify why the gunmen intercepted the tankers, but described them as belonging to vandalizing gangs.

A source at Safer company said today that the state company began exporting the first shipment of crude oil in the amount of 5,000 barrels, and will be transported by road to the area of "Ayad" in Shabwa province to be pumped from there through the oil pipeline to the port of Al-Nashima.
