Statement: Houthis kidnap an activist and her colleague in Sana'a

The "Association of Mothers of the abductees" said Saturday that the Houthi gunmen kidnapped activist, Awfa al-Nuami and her colleague Hasan al-Qotari, who work for the international organization Safer world, on Monday, from the capital Sana'a.

The Association, a non-governmental organization established by the mothers of the abductees in the Houthis ' prisons, said in a statement that the Houthis took Nuami and her colleague to an unknown area.

It noted that repeated violations and abductions against women and activists took place in the capital Sana'a without any humanitarian, moral or legal deterrent.

"The abduction of women is a dangerous precedent in our tribal and conservative society that upholds and criminalizes their abuse, so how about kidnapping and enforced disappearances for months without their relatives knowing their fate or the reason for their abduction," the association added.

It called for the cessation of violations against women, which had reached the death penalty for some of them, such as Asmaa al-Omaisi, stressing that the United Nations should stand against those violations and work to release them unconditionally.
