The United States says it will support the Government in efforts to activate the central bank

US Assistant secretary of Treasury Eric Meyer said on Wednesday that his country will provide support to the Yemeni government with the necessary expertise to fully restore the Central  bank's banking operations.

This came during a meeting with Yemeni Prime Minister Maeen Abdul Malik, in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, to discuss the steps being taken by the Yemeni government to activate and strengthen the role of the central Bank and combat money laundering, according to the official agency  "Saba ".

The Assistant Secretary of the Treasury praised the Government's legitimate efforts in the liberated areas to normalize life and provide services to its citizens, as well as its financial and oversight efforts.

On the one hand, the head of Government stressed the importance of external support to the Yemeni government and the central Bank of Yemen, as part of the outcome of the international donors ' conference on Yemen's humanitarian response plan, held recently in Geneva.

He noted that the Government's efforts have also led to the reactivation of the role of the central Bank of Yemen to carry out its tasks and functions, and approved the general budget of the State, for the first time since the outbreak of the war in the country four years ago.

The Prime Minister drew attention to the Government's achievements in activating the regulatory machinery and activating the judiciary, thereby reducing the manifestations of corruption, including the activation of the central monitoring and accounting system.

On banking policy, the prime Minister said that the Houthi militia had caused the collapse of the banking sector after harsh measures were imposed on the cashiers and the banking sector in general, considering these actions as organized looting and causing turmoil in monetary policy in the country.

He stressed that the government is working very hard and efforts to activate the Money anti-Laundering unit by activating the oversight mechanisms in the central bank.
