Security forces in Al-Mahfad attacked a suspected al-Qaeda position east of Abyan

Security forces from the UAE have attacked a site in Wadi al-Khayalah, which says the information is a staging post for al-Qaeda militants ' operations in al-Mahfad district, east of Zanzibar, capital of Abyan province (southern Yemen).

The Rapid Intervention Forces command in the al-Mahfad sector said in a statement after the attack that a force led by Hussein Al-Rabedh, a commander in the security belt, raided the position of militants in Khayalah mountains , but al-Qaeda members withdrew before attacking the site, but, according to the report, they left mines, improvised explosive devices and Mortar shells and home-made explosive packags.

There are occasional attacks by al-Qaeda militants as security forces seek to control the small directorate, one of al-Qaeda's most important strongholds in Abyan province.
