The government rejects any UN inspection mechanism in Red Sea ports before the resolution of the Sweden Agreement

Yemeni Deputy Minister of Transport Nasser Sharif said Sunday that the Government has informed the United Nations that it has not accepted the start of any activity of the UN inspection mechanism in the Red Sea Ports (Western), before the implantation of the Sweden Agreement.

The government side, in a meeting with United Nations representatives, stated in a press statement that no mechanism activity could be initiated within the Red Sea ports before the issue of local authority and port security and administration was resolved according to the agreement of Sweden.

The Government had rejected the meeting between representatives of the United Nations and representatives of the Houthi coup about the mechanism, describing it as irresponsible and bypassing United Nations officials for the objectives and work of the mechanism.

"This may negatively affect the implementation and the operation of the mechanism," he said.

"The government side stressed the rejection of  any  measure to normalize the situation with the putschists and to deal with them, and we do not accept that the mechanism will be transformed into a tool of fixation and legitimising the coup d'état inside the Red Sea ports," Sharif said

He disclosed that the representatives of the inspection mechanism explained that their meeting with the Houthis came for the purpose of assessment and in preparation for the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement, which provided for the strengthening of the United Nations presence at the port of Hodeidah

"The meeting was with the Chairman of the Port Authority of the militias in Sanaa in the office of the Foreign Minister of the Putschists ' government, and they were surprised to change the meeting place to the office of the coup government, and expressed surprise at the presence of the press and their astonishment at fabrication, and the statement on their behalf in the media of the militia, denying that Mr. Pascal Goodman representative of the Mechanism has stated anything" Sharif said.
