Government begins disbursements salaries of January and February for health workers in Houthi control areas

The legitimate Yemeni government on Monday began paying the salaries of some 33,000 health workers in areas still under the control of the Houthi rebel group, through the branches of Alkuraimi Islamic Bank.

Government and other sources at the Alkuraimi bank told al-Masdar online that employees of the health offices and government hospitals in Sana'a and the rest of the governorates that are under the control of Houthis, have started receiving the salaries of January and February through Alkuraimi Bank.

According to government sources, the government has transferred the salary amount in early March, but the rebel group obstructed the disbursement by requiring that the salaries of health staff be paid from old banknotes and warned against the confiscation of salaries if they were disbursed with new money printed by the government in Russia.

The Houthis ' actions delayed the disbursement of employees ' salaries by about 25 days, until liquidity was available from the old money notes of the Alkuraimi bank, and it was ready to deliver the salaries starting today after a hiatus of about 30 months since September 2016.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has intervened with the Saudi government and asked it to pay the salaries of health workers in Yemen, and Saudi Arabia has asked the Yemeni government for payment of the salaries of health personnel from the amount of money it was allocating to buy oil derivatives to operate the plants. Which the kingdom has sponsored.

Saudi ambassador to Yemen Mohammed Al Jaber said in early March that the Yemeni government has responded to the kingdom's request , explaining that the disbursement of the salaries of health personnel in the whole Republic is a good and successful step, and that it will follow the salaries of professors and university employees and education.

Al Jaber, in a series of tweets on "Twitter ", noted that the Ministry of Service and Insurance in the interim capital Aden ended the procedures for the disbursement of salaries of the rest of the health sector throughout the Republic, including the governorates under the control of the Houthi militia.
