9 Cholera deaths and 560 infections in Abyan

Nine people died of a cholera epidemic in the southern province of Abyan last month, while the number of cases affected by the epidemic reached 650, a medical source told Al-Masdar online.

According to the source, the Office of Public Health and population monitored the number of cases infected by the epidemic, from May to early this month, in the Directorates of Zanzibar the Capital, Khanfar and Lawdar, the three largest directorates in the province in terms of area and population.

But the source said that the cases infected by the epidemic include some African immigrants who have been in some district centers for nearly four months.

The source said that as a result of the increasing number of cases infected by the epidemic, as well as the low level of official support from the Ministry of Health in terms of supplying medicines and medical supplies to health centers and hospitals, the epidemic remains a serious risk if it spreads more widely among the local population in the province.
