Pro-UAE forces assault Socotra governor's convoy and Minister of Fisheries

Elements of the so-called Southern Transitional Council on Monday attacked a minister in the legitimate  government and governor of Socotra, and sealed off the government compound in the Qalansiyah district, west of the island.

"The Transitional council", supported by the UAE, intercepted the convoy of Fisheries Minister Fahd Kafayen and the governor of Socotra Ramzi Mahrous and assaulted the convoy, an official source told Al-Masdar online.

The incident occurred after the convoy exit from the local authority headquarters of the Qalsiyah district, he said, adding that a number of cars were damaged as a result of the attack, while no one was hurt.

The source said the attack on the convoy of the minister and the governor was "a serious situation and a new juncture in Socotra should be addressed strictly," noting that the incident was preceded by a campaign of widespread provocation by the "Southern transition" against the governor who refused to establish armed militias on the island.

For its part, political components and societal merits condemned the attack, calling for an investigation, and the community's solidarity against this behavior described as " intruder on Socotra and its people."
