One civilian killed and 10 injured after Houthi weapons store explodes in a residential neighborhood in Hodeidah (update)

A civilian was killed and 10 others injured in the western Yemeni city of Hodeidah after an explosion in a Houthi arms depot in the al-Zafaran residential neighborhood of Jizan Street on Monday morning.

Local residents told Al-Masdar Online that a powerful explosion hit a plastic factory in the center of the densely populated Al-Zafaran neighborhood, which the Houthis turned into a weapons and ammunition depot, followed by a massive fire and several explosions, and smoke from the site.

Explosions caused by the store fire killed Suleiman Qahawi as his house near the warehouse fell, 10 civilians were injured and five houses were destroyed.

The Houthis are taking large factories and hangars scattered among residential neighborhoods, places to store weapons and hide them from Arab coalition aircraft, as an explosion of a warehouse near a school in Sanaa in April killed 14 schoolgirls and wounded 16, according to a UNICEF report.
