Socotra governor directs army to end armed demonstrations and gives transitional leaders hours to remove their sit-in

The governor of the Socotra archipelago, Ramzi Mahrous, gave the groups of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) hours to remove their sit-in.

In a memorandum filed Wednesday, the governor assured President Hadi that he directed the army forces to remove tents, open roads in front of the provincial command building and end armed demonstrations.

He noted that the sit-in came after transitional leaders met with representatives of the Khalifa Humanitarian Foundation and the UAE Red Crescent.

In his memorandum, the governor called on the coalition to strengthen the efforts of the local authority in ending armed manifestations and not allowing the disruption of legitimate state institutions.

On Wednesday morning, dozens of supporters of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) attacked the gate of the Socotra archipelago.

A local source in Socotra told Al-Masdar Online that supporters of the transitional armed protection from the so-called security belt of the Emirate attacked the provincial building while the governor and the security committee were present.
